As the Industrial Design Lead at Backbone I drove the ID updates for Gen 2. The primary goal of the project was to support cases for the Iphone 15 and the majority of Android phones. We developed a magnetic system with swappable silicone pads to ensure a perfect fit with and without cases. It was important to the team to maintain the form factor and ergonomics of the original device, so during the design cycle we were prototyping functional units daily to validate each change.
